M.H. Rhodes Cramer Company, division of Capewell Components Company, LLC, manufactures expertly handcrafted quality benchmark and custom timing switches, mechanical and motorized cycle timers, motion devices, hour meters, and AC, DC, hysteresis type motors for a variety of commercial, industrial, HVAC, military and residential applications.

 

Our Founder
Mark Rhodes, Sr.
M.H. Rhodes, a division of Capewell Components Company, LLC, has been handcrafting mechanical timers and time switches since 1930. In the late 1920s, Mark Rhodes, Sr., who owned a business making straight razor sharpening tools, was losing ground to a big competitor, Gillette, and its new disposable razors. One night, as he turned off the light to go to bed, he stubbed his toe on the bedpost. He broke his toe but at the same time stumbled on a huge break for his company. Had there been a delay in the light, he thought, he wouldn’t have hurt himself. He soon developed a prototype, the first of its kind. The time delay worked with the toggle switch to delay the “on” or “off ” from 15 seconds to 19 hours.
 
This was the first product for M.H. Rhodes, which soon began manufacturing timing devices.
 
M.H. Rhodes opened for business at the beginning of the Great Depression. A rough decade to live in, and certainly the hardest one to start a new company.
 
 
We see evidence of Rhodes’ invention today; in programmable timers for holiday lighting and security systems, to name a few. This time delay invention also became the foundation for energy-efficient thinking that began in the ‘70s. 
  

Cramer Company History

The Cramer Company, founded in1922, has provided North America with expertly handcrafted quality benchmark and custom mechanical and motorized cycle timers, hour meters, and AC, DC, hysteresis type motors for a variety of commercial, industrial, HVAC, and military applications.
 
During 2005, Capewell Components Company LLC acquired Cramer Company in a strategic partnership to expand and strengthen corporate offerings.  In addition, the union of both M.H. Rhodes and Cramer Company manufacturing capabilities provide superior product offerings in key timer and device markets.
 
The synergy between Cramer Company and M.H. Rhodes has proven to fortify both companies in the areas of new products, market development and distribution fulfillment services. 
 
Today, M.H. Rhodes Cramer Company jointly, continues to offer our customers superior customer service, design engineering, quality manufactured products, sales, and warehousing at our 89,000 square foot facility located in South Windsor, Connecticut and, is recognized among the leaders in the timing control industry.  M.H. Rhodes Cramer Company is ISO 9001:2008 Certified.

For more than 30 years, The Ripley Tool Company, division of Capewell Components Co., LLC, located in Cromwell, Connecticut provides superior quality wire and cable tools for the CATV, fiber optic, telecommunications, wireless and energy transmission/distribution industries. 

Ripley Company designs, develops, and manufactures wire and cable preparation tools to promote safety on the job while increasing productivity for linemen, technicians, and installers worldwide.
